Cointelegraph Frontend Hack Mimics CoinMarketCap Breach in Sophisticated Scam
Cointelegraph's website was compromised on Sunday, displaying fraudulent pop-ups claiming users won 50,000 non-existent CTG tokens. The attack mirrored a similar front-end breach at CoinMarketCap over the weekend, both leveraging polished interfaces mimicking legitimate airdrops.
Blockchain security firm Scam Sniffer identified the exploit originating from Cointelegraph's ad system. The scam employed countdown timers and wallet connection prompts to trick users into granting fund-draining permissions. No CTG token or ICO has ever been associated with Cointelegraph.
This coordinated targeting of major crypto data platforms suggests an escalating threat vector in digital asset ecosystems. The incidents highlight vulnerabilities in web3-facing media infrastructure, particularly through third-party ad networks.
